African Presence in the New Testament I
This course will provide a fundamental understanding of the New Testament. This class will first examine the intertestamental and first-century history, Gentile religions and philosophies and Judaistic practices. After treating the entire New Testament at a glance, this class then focuses on the individual books, providing introductory data, detailed outlines and summary commentary from the gospels to Revelations. Required Book: The Bible. Other course materials will be provided.
Artists for Christ
Learn to draw realistic pictures from a Biblical perspective. This class will provide you with fundamental information about tools and techniques, as well as inspiring step by step lessons in creativity. We have also added the creative art of crocheting! It is a perfect time to begin making wonderful presents! All ages are welcome from six through adult. Come as a family! It is relaxing and amazingly effective. Michael Hawkins and Cordelia Smith
Black Lives and White Supremacy
As we prepare to do the work of fighting for justice while creating the Beloved Community, it is important to have tools that will equip us for understanding how the history of racism and white supremacy contribute to dynamics of poverty, health disparity and hopelessness that are not of God. Come learn how God created us in His image and the important work before us that only God can empower. Required Book: Black Lives, White Supremacy and the American Fiction by Brenda Wall
God’s Armor Bearer
Leaders in the Bible often chose loyal armor bearers to assist and protect them. Christian leaders today also need dedicated assistants to turn vision into reality. Learn how to get plugged into your congregation, leave your comfort zone and develop your gifts for spiritual service. This class uses biblical examples of servant-hearted helpers to help you develop the essential qualities of an integral team player! Required Book: God’s Armor Bearer, Volumes 1 & 2by Terry Nance
How to Study the Bible and Enjoy It
For too many Christians, the Bible is a confusing combination of unbelievable old stories, ancient history and irrelevant rules; but the exact opposite is the case. When Christians read and understand the Bible, they soon discover its extraordinary relevance and transforming power for their lives. This course helps readers discover the tools that can help them understand God’s Word. This class will enable you to begin studying and interpreting the Bible for yourself. (This is an excellent preparatory class for Teacher and Leadership Certification.) Required Book: How to Study the Bible and Enjoy It by Skip Heitzig
Ordering Your Private World As
The New Year begins, calming personal chaos is often part of our New Year’s Resolution. This class will help us explore the values of our Western culture which promote the busy, publicly active approach to ministry at the expense of introspection and quiet prayer. This class will teach you how to listen to God’s voice, live from the inside out and cultivate the inner victory necessary for both public and private ministry effectiveness. Book: Ordering Your Private World by Gordon Macdonald.

From the beginning of creation and the deliverance of the children of Israel to the Second Law, this course will help students appreciate the magnificent unity and central themes of God’s grace. Master Plan of Evangelism
Even if you do not think evangelism is for you, this class gives step-by-step proven ways to change your lifestyle into an evangelistic way of life that honors God. You will be equipped to effectively and intentionally share with people, who need to know that God loves them. You will learn the value of your story/testimony as you share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and win souls for Christ. Required Book: The Bible. Other course materials will be provided. Daddy Issues
If your father was absent, abusive or aloof, you know daddy issues are serious. The failure of our fathers wound us deeply and those wounds affect our parenting, our relationships and our capacity to trust God. There’s good news. God desires to heal your father wounds. So many healthy, loving and powerful fathers are also in our midst. Come learn how these fathers have discovered their true identity through the power of Jesus. Rapture, Revelation and the End Times
Christians call the future coming of Jesus for His people the Rapture. Jesus Christ also said there will be times of terrible trouble called the Great Tribulation. Teacher & Leadership Certification
This advanced course is a requirement for persons called to leadership, teaching or the proclamation of God’s word. This training provides intensive instruction in theology, teaching, biblical interpretation and leadership. Students must attend all classes. Required Book: Christian Beliefs: Twenty Basics Every Christian Should Know by Wayne A. Grudem
In addition to registering for the class with HTBI, prospective students must complete the online form at htbi.friendshipwest.org for consideration and approval by FW Pastoral Staff. By completing the form, prospective students understand that entrance into the certification training requires that they be a member in good standing at Friendship-West Baptist Church. A member in good standing consists of being: 1) a faithful tither, giving at least 10% of your gross income and 2) a regular attendee of Wednesday Bible Study and/or HTBI and 3) involved in ministry. Non-Members must register with HTBI, complete the online form at htbi.friendshipwest.org, and Pastoral Staff consideration and approval is required in order to participate. Students will be notified by an HTBI team member of their acceptance.
Note both Part I and Part II are mandatory for successful course completion.
